Those girls might as well have neon signs over them saying “NOT INTERESTED”, but Jajij tries anyway, bless his optimistic, narcissistic little heart.
This week’s vote incentive: Have some more Jajij!
There’s also a new page to look at in the bonus pages. I know, right? Some of you guys thought I forgot about that little arc, but I didn’t! We’re going to finish up the story at long last.
EXCITING NEWS TIME!
For a while now I’ve been toying with the idea of making Shades of Gray more than a hobby. I’ve been putting it off because I was afraid of taking such a big risk, but then 2013 came around, kicked my butt in so many ways, and finally gave me enough backbone to say, “The hell with this, let’s try.” This year I’m stepping up my game and making a go of it.
What does that mean?
Well, first off I am currently devoting all my time to working on the comic or things for it. A few weeks ago I left my job with the blessings of my family and friends in order to work on it full time. I’m super stoked (though admittedly a little scared at times) about taking such a huge step, but I think it’s worth doing.
As a result, Shades of Gray will be updating twice a week starting April 15th. Tuesdays and Fridays. We’ll see how it goes. If in my new and vast expanses of free time I turn into some sort of comic-making machine, I might even be able to swing 3 updates a week. Who knows? I should be able to make more regular updates to Ixion and the Bonus pages, too.
How am I going to work this whole no job, lots of art thing?
Well, hopefully a few ways, let’s start with just one.
Shades of Gray is now on Patreon! I’ve seen it used successfully on other webcomics, so I thought I’d try it out. If you’re not familiar with the site, it allows readers and fans to help support various projects via regularly scheduled donations. There are also little incentives for different pledge amounts. Go check it out, if only to see a decent picture of me! (So rare!) If you’re so kind as to become a regular patron, it’ll help provide me with a steady income and the peace of mind that comes with that sort of thing.
I’m also setting things up for a better Shades of Gray store, and a kickstarter to fund bigger projects like convention trips and possibly getting the story published. So some nice, professionally made merchandise is on the way, just farther down the road.
Over the next few months there will be updates to the site itself, so don’t worry if things start looking weird or links are temporarily broken. I’m going to tweak a few things, streamline it, possibly change the look around. If you missed the edit to last week’s post, I’ve got the comic registered on fanfiction.net so any new stories can be submitted directly to them now. Also, if you’ve got stories already posted here and wouldn’t mind, it would be wonderful if you could resubmit them there. On FF.net, they’d be a lot easier to read, comment on, and add notes to, plus if you have a story that has chapters or that you’d like split up into chapters, they can accommodate that!
I know this is a lot of fundraising and new stuff in general, but I want to assure you that in no way will you ever have to pay to read this story. Shades of Gray and Ixion will always be free to read. And I’m going to keep up the twice a week schedule for as long as I can afford to. If Patreon and other forms of comic revenue work the way I’m hoping, I might be able to keep it up indefinitely.
Anyway, I just want to say thank you so much for reading, commenting, and just supporting the comic in general. You guys are all wonderful! ♥
