I don’t know why, but this struck me as really funny last night. 3 am humor, folks. Exactly the reason I waited to do the actual dialogue until the morning.
*rock – rock*
Wow emotionally shutdown, and that completely. Ten, c’mon lad, buck up. Before you #%^*-up. We don’t know if it has been sent back or just hasn’t found you again….
Wow, total emotional shutdown. Cmon lad, buck up before you #%^*-up. You are more resilient than that.
Poor La and Li. They have a bit of work on their hands.
I really enjoy La’s expression in the last panel.
And thats the entire plan right off the tracks guys !
Good luck to li and la to get this wreck back on the rails.. its gonna be hard xD
Also, SIDEQUESTS ! i place my bet on old lady tree calming ten if li and la help her.
The last panel made me feel with Li and La, Ten and a tree-spirit, both sobbing, sounds like something they didn’t sign up for. Nothing compared to Ten thou, I thought he would hit bottom two pages ago, and here he is still falling.
BTW what’s with the points in Li and La’s Text? Do the have a special meaning?
Li and La: babysitters extraordinaire! Specialize in hysterics.
This particular tree was ancient even before transplantation? Do you have any idea how big a rootball can get??? I had assumed they were all cultivated from seedlings in space labratories. That is far more cost effective then moving a fifty+ ton tree and rootball. But to have such old memories, it must be very old, and therfore have a hell of a lot of roots. I remember a big project a few years ago to save an old growth tree from highway expansion. It stood apart from the main forest, which was dominated by younger trees. The older small road had gone between, but there was no room for the expansion on both sides. In an unusual act of cooperation, the state road workers decided to help a group of volunteers dig up and move the rootball 90% intact about fifty yards. The tree trunk alone weighed about 15 tones, but the roots clocked total mass above fifty. And trees adapted to desert life have to send their roots far wider in search of water. I just don’t see anybody investing in moving one intact like this ONTO A SPACE STATION.
That also begs the question: the tree spirit was oblivious to the process that brought it to the station, yet is annoyed by Ten scratching it?
I also wonder if this highly maintained environment is somehow stunting the spiritual and mental development of the other trees. Is that what she means by them being “quiet”?
What makes you think the tree was big when it was moved?
She would have had to be less then 5 years, 10 Kilm years old to be cost effective. Are tree spirits normally self aware by then, because she remembers the moons, and was likely taught something or other from her own elder trees. And you still haven’t explained why she was unaware of being moved. That would kind of stand out to a being that normally never moves.
In addition to what Ryguy said, the tree refers to its “children” so it had to have been mature enough to have produced a significant number of seeds which grew into trees before the tree was moved.
You didn’t think we were going to let you get away with creating a plot hole this big, did you? 😉
Hmm… perhaps I’m failing to see things from your angle.
I have answers for all the questions about this, which the twins will get to soon enough so I’m not going to ruin their explanations, but I’m curious why you guys are so sure the tree must have arrived as an adult and not a young sapling.
All right, the mythology and the tumblr indicate the great age of the Moons, and the tree spirit seemed personaly familier with them, but perhaps, as I think it over, she is just very aware of their reputations. I infered from her seeming familiarity that she had gotten to know them at some early period back on the planet, and therefore must have been an old growth tree at the time of transplantation, but moving such a colossal rootball off planet intact is preposterous. Now if the tree had led with a statment like, “Moons? Is that you? My old elders told me of your mighty deeds! But why have you vanished from the skys?”, that would have eliminated any ambiguity right off the bat without likely overshooting the plot reveals you have planned next.
Now, I am guessing that you wil want to wait until the tree’s side of things is explained in due course, but I woul an explanation as to why this particular tree needed to be grown for a year or two planetside, and not started from scratch in a cultivation labratory already in space. It just seems easier all around.
Ohhh that makes sense, okay. I get where you’re coming from now.
Don’t worry… everything will be explained in time, though you’re probably going to have even more questions pop up before then. XD
Wait?! there’s a Tumblr?! When, where, what? I need to have followed that like yesterday. Could I get a link or is it posted somewhere on the site that I’ve just missed?
There is NOT a tumblr. Ryguy, whatchu talkin’ ’bout?
Err…it was LIKE one…your questions and answers forum? I sort of stumbled across it a while back and forgot the setting. Fans were asking characters questions and then you had them answer tumblre style.
Ah, that’s Patreon.
Awwww, oh well. I would have totally followed the heck out of it.
It could simply be that trees of that type just dont cultivate well in space…that would aslo answer why she can’t hear any of her children: they didn’t ‘make’ it.
What if they also mean “chunk of sand out in the void” BETWEEN DIMENSIONS, in addition to the obvious meaning of this tree being on Altair.
The void as in the vacuum of space.
Be quite tree li and la are trying to deal with a hysterical ten here!
Good luck guys you have a hard job in front of you
WELL FANTASTIC JOB! you guys just broke a Kilm in every way possible XD
… All I gota say is this.
I agree, something is fishy here.
